Blended and Typed

Photo Blends
1.Before

Books; 4/28/11 - 7:30 am - My Apartment, Rexburg; f/stop 2.9; 1/8; Kodak Easyshare M1073 IS

When I think of antique, my thoughts always go to books; old bookstores, libraries etc. So it seemed appropriate that I antique a bookshelf photograph. I did not edit this shot in Photoshop until I blended the two photos together.

Ceiling; 4/27/1 - 3:13 pm - My Apartment, Rexburg; f/stop 2.9; 1/25; Kodak Easyshare M1073 IS

One of the most textured things I have ever seen is a ceiling. There are varying patterns and interesting shadows that make this texture a great one for antiquing photos. I did not edit this shot in Photoshop until I blended the two photos together.

Photo Type

Jeans; 4/28/11 - 2:22 pm - My Apartment, Rexburg; f/stop 2.9; 1/15; Kodak Easyshare M1073 IS

I am a jeans guy. Jeans and America go together like peanut butter and chocolate. I thought that they would make an interesting subject for a photo. I blurred the background a little bit in Photoshop to make the jeans in the foreground more of what catches your eye.

Mill Wall; 4/28/11 - 2:06 pm -Seed Mill, Rexburg; f/stop 2.9; 1/160; Kodak Easyshare M1073 IS

This wall I just thought was cool. I like things that look old, that natural wear and tear look. After blending the two photos, I realized just how much the colors of this mill matched the colors in the jeans. I did not edit this shot before I made it the type's texture. Afterwards, I saturated the colors a little.

Color Study

The Color Blue

Blue Bike; 4/28/11 - 2:09 pm - Apartment Complex, Rexburg; f/stop 5.6; 1/250; Kodak Easyshare M1073 IS

When I saw this bike I knew exactly what color I wanted. It was a great subject in a great place. I took lots of different shots of it at different angles. I took it into Photoshop to make the blue pop more. I adjusted the levels.

Blue Boat; 4/28/11 - 2:14 pm - Targhee Pawnshop, Rexburg; f/stop 5.6; 1/320; Kodak Easyshare M1073 IS

The light blue color is not a very common one but you can't miss it when you see it. This boat stuck out to me. It was very big and very hard to get the whole thing to a picture. Composing a shot was the hardest. Once I found the name though I knew it was the shot I needed. In Photoshop I saturated light blue color on bottom and adjusted the levels of the light blue color on top.

Blue Tie; 4/28/11 - 2:20 pm - My Apartment, Rexburg; f/stop 2.9; 1/13; Kodak Easyshare M1073 IS

Its my favorite tie. So go figure it would have the color of my color study. Ties can be interesting subjects at the right angles. This was the angle I found to be most interesting. I only changed the lower squares in Photoshop to make the color more vibrant. I changed their levels to make them more light.

Blue DumDum; 4/28/11 - 2:32 pm - Stone Brook Apartments, Rexburg; f/stop 2.9; 1/13; Kodak Easyshare M1073 IS

Who doesn't love a Dum Dum? Their wrappers have great, bright, noticeable colors and lucky for me light blue. I chose to get a close up shot to make the blues the most dominant color in the shot. I did not edit this shot in Photoshop.

Cutouts

Title: Coyote

DATE/TIME: 10/20/2008 11:24 am

LOCATION: Tahuantinsuyo, Peru

F-STOP: 5.6

SHUTTER SPEED: 1/64 sec.

He must have been sedated. Or just used to all the visitors. While all the other animals spent their time running around and messing up my shots, this coyote just sat there. I took it at the Peruvian National Zoo. In Photoshop I used the quick select, the rectangle marquee, and the lasso tool to create this cutout

These are all your kitchen essentials right in a row: flour, sugar, more sugar, and chocolate. The angle is a worm’s eye view, from the counter top. I didn’t use a flash in order to preserve the natural light. I took the image into Photoshop, and using the Quick Select tool, cut out the jars.

SHUTTER SPEED: 1/250 sec

This was a “the right place and the right time” photograph. I was walking back from an apartment where I had just cleaned the carpets. A great summer rainstorm had just finished and this double rainbow stretched right in front of my apartment complex. I took it into Photoshop and saturated the lowest rainbow, making it as vibrant as it really was.

This was the view from the window in front of my desk. From our front windows over looked the city’s soccer stadium. In the bottom left hand corner you can see part of the stadium. Using the panoramic setting on my camera I took a panoramic shot. It was a perfect blend of trees, sky and city.

3. TITLE: Jungle Sunset

This is a picture I took on my mission. There was a random barn on the side of the road where we were walking and the sun just happened to be setting right beside it. It was a great sunset. I was lucky to be there when I was. I took it into Photoshop and darkened the landscape with level adjustments. The sky needed saturation to be given its original color.

It was the night before my wife’s birthday and I was staying up late to make her cake of her dreams: confetti cake with chocolate frosting and sprinkles, lots of sprinkles. My camera was on a macro setting so I could get the sprinkles to be sharp. This image looks so good that I didn’t need to do anything to it.

5. TITLE: Retaining Rocks

DATE/TIME: 4/22/11 7:19 am

LOCATION: By the Hinckley Building Stairwell

CAMERA: KODAK EASYSHARE M1073 IS

F-STOP: 2.9

SHUTTER SPEED: 1/160 sec

I loved the different colors in the rocks of the retaining wall outside the Hinckley Building. But much to my dismay, with no flash my camera failed to capture the colors. I went into Photoshop, selected the rocks and adjusted their levels to get them back to their real colors. The fresh snow created a great contrast with them.
